General Information for JTT State Championships

Match Format

  • Team competition for the USTA Colorado JTT State Championships will consist of one singles and one doubles match. Teams are required to have 3 players at each scheduled team match. Both lines (singles and doubles) of each team match will be scheduled/played at the same time. Substitutions WILL NOT be used or allowed during State.
  • Strictly enforced 5-minute warmup before each match. NOTE: There is not a break once the warmup is over.  Play should begin promptly. Warmup may be shortened if necessary due to inclement weather. Warmup courts are usually available at host facilities from 7:00am – 7:30am. All players must exit the courts at 7:30am and report to the tournament desk. Once play starts, any open courts may NOT be used for warmups.
  • Standard format:  The standard format throughout this Championship is best 2 out of 3 sets, no-ad scoring with a 7-point match tie-break in lieu of the 3rd set.  Should you reach 6-all in the 1st or 2nd set, you will play a tiebreak, first to 7 by 2, using the Standard Tiebreak procedure.  Note: Format may be changed due to weather. See information below.
  • No more than 90 seconds on change overs.  There is no rest period on the changeover after the first game of the 1st or 2nd set.  A 2-minute break is allowed if you split sets.

Match Times

The JTT State Championship usually takes three days to complete with round robin play the first two days and single-elimination final rounds the third day. Most teams will have one to two matches per day ranging from 8am until late afternoon or evening. In some smaller divisions, the format may be round robin only.

Eligibility

All players participating in the State Championship must be registered on the team roster prior to the last match of the regular season. If a team is found to have played an ineligible player for a match during State, the match will be awarded as a 6-0, 6-0 win for the opposing team. If anyone is found to have misrepresented their identity, a grievance will be filed against the player and/or captain. Misrepresentation of identity carries the possibility of 24 suspension points, which is a mandatory suspension of at least one year.

Sportsmanship

All players are expected to follow The Code of Tennis and display good sportsmanship throughout the event. Roving umpires will be onsite to assist with any questions or problems that arise and to enforce the point penalty system, as well as the lateness penalty if necessary. NO COACHING IS ALLOWED during JTT matches. Parents and coaches can cheer for good points, but should never try to communicate with players during a match.

Standings

  • Team standings will be posted at the site, however, official standings will be posted on ustacolorado.com. Note: The standings in TennisLink are not official and may be incorrect.
  • Standings are based on the number of TEAM MATCHES won. If teams are tied with team wins, the winner will be determined by:
    • Most Individual Wins
    • Most Games Won
    • Most Sets Won
    • Least Individual Match Losses
    • Least Games Lost
    • Least Sets Lost
    • Championship Committee Decision
  • All teams competing at the District Championships must complete the entire round robin. Total Team Defaults (2 out of 3 positions; or 3 out of 5 positions) during Districts will not be tolerated for any reason and will subject all players rostered on the team to penalties up to, and including suspension.

If a team match during a single elimination round ends in an exact tie, a Super Tiebreak will be played: the super tiebreak will be a doubles tiebreak, first to 7 by 2. Each team is allowed to play any eligible player from their roster. Note: This could happen if each team wins one line by the same scores.

Defaults During JTT State Championships During JTT State Championships, if a team turns in a line-up with a default, the opposing team will be allowed to receive their line-up back, be told which line is being defaulted, and to adjust their line-up if they would like. Teams are still required to have three (3) players for every match during the JTT State Championships.

Check in prior to matches Teams are to check in to the site desk at least 30 minutes prior to match time. All line up cards must be submitted at least 15 minutes prior to the match. In an effort to keep matches on time, players need to be ready to take the court when the match is called (i.e. use the restroom prior to being called for the match). Line up cards will be available at the desk.

Weather In case of inclement weather, all teams must still report to the tournament desk at their scheduled site and match time, unless instructed otherwise by the USTA Colorado. This tournament page will be updated with important information if there are weather issues that arise. In addition, a Junior League Alert! and/or text message (see next paragraph) may be sent with important information, so please check your email routinely throughout the event if there are weather concerns.
