General Information for JTT State Championships
Match Format
- Team competition for the USTA Colorado JTT State Championships will consist of one singles and one doubles match. Teams are required to have 3 players at each scheduled team match. Both lines (singles and doubles) of each team match will be scheduled/played at the same time. Substitutions WILL NOT be used or allowed during State.
- Strictly enforced 5-minute warmup before each match. NOTE: There is not a break once the warmup is over. Play should begin promptly. Warmup may be shortened if necessary due to inclement weather. Warmup courts are usually available at host facilities from 7:00am – 7:30am. All players must exit the courts at 7:30am and report to the tournament desk. Once play starts, any open courts may NOT be used for warmups.
- Standard format: The standard format throughout this Championship is best 2 out of 3 sets, no-ad scoring with a 7-point match tie-break in lieu of the 3rd set. Should you reach 6-all in the 1st or 2nd set, you will play a tiebreak, first to 7 by 2, using the Standard Tiebreak procedure. Note: Format may be changed due to weather. See information below.
- No more than 90 seconds on change overs. There is no rest period on the changeover after the first game of the 1st or 2nd set. A 2-minute break is allowed if you split sets.
Match Times
- The JTT State Championship usually takes three days to complete with round robin play the first two days and single-elimination final rounds the third day. Most teams will have one to two matches per day ranging from 8am until late afternoon or evening. In some smaller divisions, the format may be round robin only.
Eligibility
- All players participating in the State Championship must be registered on the team roster prior to the last match of the regular season. If a team is found to have played an ineligible player for a match during State, the match will be awarded as a 6-0, 6-0 win for the opposing team. If anyone is found to have misrepresented their identity, a grievance will be filed against the player and/or captain. Misrepresentation of identity carries the possibility of 24 suspension points, which is a mandatory suspension of at least one year.
Sportsmanship
- NO COACHING IS ALLOWED during JTT matches. Parents and coaches can cheer for good points, but should never try to communicate with players during a match.
- All players are expected to follow The Code of Tennis and display good sportsmanship throughout the event.
Officials
- A USTA Certified Official will be on-site.
- Please note that only players on the court should request assistance. Spectators should only ask for help if one of the players has requested it.
- Officials may observe courts from a distance or be on the court as they deem necessary.
- Officials are not expected to rove or spend time on specific courts.
Weather
- In case of inclement weather, all teams must still report to the tournament desk at their scheduled site and match time, unless instructed otherwise by the USTA Colorado.
- If there are weather concerns, we will send out communications with any changes as soon as possible, so please check your email routinely throughout the event if there are weather concerns.
- If necessary, the Championship Committee may make alternate plans to complete the Tournament on schedule. Such plans may include, but not limited to alternate scoring formats (short sets or pro sets), rescheduling match times, days and/or locations, postponing event, cancelling event.
Standings
- Team standings will be posted at the site, however, official standings will be posted on ustacolorado.com. Note: The standings in TennisLink are not official and may be incorrect.
- Standings are based on the number of TEAM MATCHES won. If teams are tied with team wins, the winner will be determined by:
- Most Individual Wins
- Most Games Won
- Most Sets Won
- Least Individual Match Losses
- Least Games Lost
- Least Sets Lost
- Championship Committee Decision
- All teams competing at the JTT State Championships must complete the entire round robin. Total Team Defaults during State will not be tolerated for any reason.
If a team match during a single elimination round ends in an exact tie, a Super Tiebreak will be played: the super tiebreak will be a doubles tiebreak, first to 7 by 2. Each team is allowed to play any eligible player from their roster. Note: This could happen if each team wins one line by the same scores.
Defaults During JTT State Championships
- During JTT State Championships, if a team turns in a line-up with a default, the opposing team will be allowed to receive their line-up back, be told which line is being defaulted, and to adjust their line-up if they would like. Teams are still required to have three (3) players for every match during the JTT State Championships.
Day of Event Information
Pre-match check-in
- Teams are to check in to the site desk at least 30 minutes prior to match time. All line up cards must be submitted at least 15 minutes prior to the match. In an effort to keep matches on time, players need to be ready to take the court when the match is called (i.e. use the restroom prior to being called for the match). Line up cards will be available at the desk. All players should report to the tournament desk at least 15 minutes prior to your match time.
- Lineup cards will be provided to captains by the tournament desk.
- Captains should submit lineup cards at least 15 minutes prior to each match. NOTE: Never turn in a lineup card until all players are on-site and ready to play.
- If courts are available prior to the 8am round, teams may warm up until 7:30am. All players must vacate the courts at 7:30am. Throughout the rest of the day, warm up courts are not available (empty courts may not be used). If teams want to warm up, it is recommended to find some nearby courts.
- Always use the restroom before you report to the desk. Do not wait until match is called to use the restroom.
- You should be ready to take the court as soon as you are called (i.e. shoes, sun screen, etc. all taken care of).
- If a team submits a lineup with any lines defaulted, the opposing team will be allowed to receive their lineup back, be notified which line(s) is/are being defaulted, and make any changes to their lineup. (As of 2017)
- If an ineligible player is played, that individual match shall count as a win by default for the opposing team.
When Match is Completed
- All players from the court need to come to the desk immediately to report scores. This is done to ensure that we get the correct scores and any discrepancies can be worked out at that time.
- Once all lines have been completed, captains need to come to the desk to sign the scorecard.
- NOTE: If this is forgotten, we will assume that the captain agrees to all scores as they were reported and the scores may not be disputed at a later time.
Drinking Water
- All players should bring their own water for every match, as many tennis facilities no longer have water available on-court.
